SNOOZE
------
By Ben Moseley
(c) A&B Computing 1990
Snooze is a handy little program which permits your Archimedes to 'go to
sleep' if it has been left unattended - untouched for a period of time.
It is a RISC OS application which installs itself on the icon bar. Once
loaded, clicking on the icon, moving the mouse pointer to the bottom left
corner of the screen, or leaving the micro for a specified period of time
will all cause the desktop screen to clear and letter Z's to drift around.
This prevents unnecessary strain on the monitor phosphor dots which
otherwise might be damaged - burnt out.
To wake the machine up again, it is only necessary to move the mouse, press
a key or a mouse button. The desktop screen then appears exactly as it was
left. The whole program is very simple to use. The time delay before going
to sleep is set by a standard pop-up menu. Click the menu button over the
!Sleep icon to set the time delay in seconds. Since no sprite memory is used
to store the screen and because the WIMP is used for the redrawing,
valuable memory space is saved.
So, now you can leave your Archimedes to its own devices while you go and
make that much needed cup of coffee or feed the dog, without cause for
concern!
A final note is that while the machine is sleeping, the Z's may be exchanged
for 3D swinging pendulums. This is done by pressing one of the <ALT> keys.
Happy dreaming!
